Picking tools are designed to perform one of two basic functions: manipulating pins and turning the plug. A few basic tools are sufficient to pick the majority of commonly used locks. Surreptitious entry (e.g., for espionage or law enforcement surveillance) is likewise often best accomplished by obtaining a key or through the use of specialized decoding or bypass tools designed to quickly and quietly defeat the locks used by the target. And of course there is the surest and fastest method of all: the use of the correct key. Only one pin stack should be in a binding state at any given time, of course. If this pin stack is slowly pushed up with torque applied to the plug, eventually its cut will reach the shear line and the plug will turn a bit more. See Figure 2. The plug will be blocked from rotating if any pin stack is lifted either not far enough (with the cut still in the plug below the shear line) or too far (with the cut pushed above the shear line and into the shell); to rotate, all pin stacks must have a cut at the shear line. Torque tools may be oriented vertically (with the handle in line with the keyway) or horizontally (with the handle perpendicular to the keyway); different people have different preferences.

Certain players, therefore, hate and cannot play with certain clubs; perhaps it may be said of a few, very few, that they play equally well or badly with all clubs. You may need to turn the pick a bit to fully lift the pins. In conclusion, while snooker and billiards may seem similar at first glance, there are distinct differences between the two. These three - billiards, pool, and snooker - all use cue sticks, tables, and balls. The game is easy for anyone to start playing, so pick up a cue and line up your first shot. Pin tumbler lock picking consists of raising the cuts on each pin stack to the shear line, one by one, until the plug turns freely. For example, Medeco locks use special wedge-shaped bottom pins that are rotated into one of several possible positions by the key cuts (which can be cut at different angles). Picking locks requires skill, practice, and the use of rather unusual (and not widely available) tools.

Vertical orientation requires a 90 degree twist in the blade. While some of these features can be defeated with conventional picking tools and are covered here, picking high security locks generally requires specialized tools and techniques (often designed for a specific brand or model of lock) and are beyond our scope here. Billiards tables are slightly smaller, have larger balls, and the objective of the game is to pocket balls in a specific order. Some fall under the carom billiards catagery and other fall under the pocket billiards one. Losing Hazard: You score if you hit the other cue ball, which should then hit the red ball and pocket the ball to get three points. It is considered a scoring shot if the player sinks either their cue ball or the red ball. The player can earn points by either potting the red ball, which is worth one point, or by potting the yellow ball, which is worth two points. If you pot your cue ball off the opposing player’s cue ball, it is worth 2 points. Lock picking is useful and worth studying for its generality and simplicity.

The basic skills of pin tumbler lock picking include selecting the proper tools, manipulating pins through the keyway, applying torque, and recognizing the state of each pin. Another style of torque tool has two "prongs" that fit in the top and bottom of the keyway, with a cutout between them for the pick. Picks probe and lift the individual pin tumblers through the keyway, while torque tools control the degree and force of plug rotation. While some of the literature of this subject is quite good, much of it is amateurish, apparently written to appeal to an "underground" audience and not especially rigorous or complete. For those unfortunate neo-anti-Luddites who refuse to acknowledge the value of anything not available on the Web, I suggest, at a minimum, reading the MIT Guide to Lockpicking, which, while not perfect, has the virtue of being free (and readily available online).
